Know about Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana launched by Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PKVY). This scheme is a skill development program targeted at Indian youth seeking overseas employment to make India the Skill Capital of the World. In other words, Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PKVY) is a skill development initiative of the Ministry in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship to give training and certification of Indian workers who are seeking overseas employment in select sectors.

“The 14th ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’ was actually inaugurated in the presence of the PM Modi as well as the chief guest, the Prime Minister of Portugal. Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa and Suriname Vice-President Ashwin Adhin were also present at the event which was held in the presence of 8,000 delegates, making it the largest ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’ ever,” he added.

Who are Grimityas?

Girmitiyas, or indentured labourers, are the generations of Indians who left the their country in the middle and late 19th century for serving as labourers in the then British colonies where they eventually settled down.
Skill development

A  skill development programme namely ‘Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojna’ — for Indian youth has been planned, Modi said. The new skill development scheme is aimed at Indian youth going outside the countries to seek employment. The programme is aimed at boosting the confidence of the Indian youth so that they don’t feel like strangers when they land in a country of their choice for vocation.
