Nitish Kumar quit as Chief Minister of Bihar. He ended the two-year-long political experiment. He took himself away from Maha-gathbandhan or Grand Alliance which included his party (RJD), Lalu Yadav and the Congress. On 26 July, 2017, Mr Kumar met with the Governor of Bihar Keshari Nath Tripathi to deliver his resignation. Tejaswi Yadav, son of Lalu Yadav had been named in an FIR by the CBI in a land-for-contract scam.
The RJD today declared that Tejashwi Yadav would not resign at any cost. After giving his resignation, Nitish Kumar said, “I am quitting in interest of Bihar.”
Nitish Kumar said, “I tried my best to save the alliance. I did not ask for anybody’s resignation. I met with Tejashwi asked him to give an explanation on the charges against him. It became impossible for me to work in this worst environment. So I took this decision. Actually this was the call of my soul. I also talked to Rahul (Gandhi) ji. Actually, I wanted to save this alliance but got no response from his end as well. There was no point in running this government. This is against my nature and the way I work.”
